End July – back to normal

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Fishing in latter half of July has returned to normal. Fairly good fishing at the Limeburner with the usual species, Grey,Red &Tub Gurnards, Haddock, Cod, Whiting, Spurdog, LSD etc. (few Haddock, Cod & Whiting but some). Mackeral are now abundant and water temp is 14.5 – 15 Centigrade.
Blue Shark still have not shown – another Charter boat spent 1 day looking.
Tope are inconsistent – some days 4 runs and others 20 or 30 runs.
Rays are good and flatfish also. Wrecks fishing well although no more Torsk. No Scad so far – last year there were a few around even in June.
The Rosguill boated its first Common Skate of 2007 – Female of 144 pounds – lost another run on same day.

Fishing has improved with still the odd bad day – one particularily bad one at Tory Island. Really good day on the wrecks when along with good Pollack & Ling, very unusually caught 5 nice Cod to 7 pounds. Tope back in their full glory with 30 runs in 3 hours. Loads of Mackeral and Limeburner fishing OK. Water temperature now around 57 degrees Farenheit/almost 14 Centigrade.

Start 2007 season

Saturday, April 21st, 2007

April saw the start of the fishing season for the Rosguill and surprisingly there are a lot of Mackeral around, especially about the Limeburner grounds. The Audacious had one poor day and one OK day. Good numbers of Whiting although mostly very small. Surface Water temperature was 10 degrees Centigrade during the spell of good weather but fell half a degree when the wind came.
