“like tiles on a roof”

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

– quote by a member of East Belfast Sea Angling Club as they re- obliterated the club records for Turbot caught in a day. Super Turbot fishing on board the Rosguill with 43 Turbot and Brill caught. Best angler with a new club record – 8 Turbot.

The same club had fantastic Turbot fishing in 2010 on board the Rosguill & believed that day could not be beaten. Amazing.

Improvement in fishing

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

Fishing has improved. Poor Tope & Conger but other species not so bad. Mackeral still unusually patchy for mid June.

Not often seen!

The Amorous Tope and the Unromantic Angler

Fishing remains not great.

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Stubbornly, the quality of fishing like the weather fails to improve greatly. There are, however, a few good signs – the Pollack reef fishing this past 4 years or so has been particularily bad – but this year at Tory Island the Pollack reef fishing is effectively back to the good old days. Tope also are fairly good.

Fishing & weather improve a little

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

Fishing has improved with reasonable showing of Tope, some Spurdogs, medium sized Turbot, lots of Mackeral, reef Pollack. Lost 2 probably Porbeagle runs and after a 35 minute battle with a Common Skate, it spat the hook. The worst of the May winter weather has gone to be replaced by more summer unsettled weather.

Fishing remains poor

Monday, May 30th, 2011

Fishing remains poor after a bout of very bad weather lasting around 5 weeks. Water temperature 10 degrees centigrade. A few nice Pollack on the wrecks, some whiting still around. Sand average. Weather is set to settle & fingers crossed!

Fishing gone bad.

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

Poor fishing this weekend. A few Mackeral. A few other fish, but not a lot going. Lost a couple Tope in the Swilly.

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

Good numbers of reasonable sized Whiting around now. (plus the odd Coalfish)!

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Smashing 120 pound Blue Shark – first Blue of 2010 for the Rosguill, boated after a mammoth battle lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes. First run it almost spooled Dublin angler, Steven. Beautiful Blue Shark measuring 75 inches fork length with an amazing girth of 33 inches.

Fishing OK

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

Fishing has been Ok recently. Lots of Mackeral now. A lot of Porbeagle Sharks have been caught in the area – unfortunately none by Rosguill….Yet! Blue Sharks should be here within a few weeks. The Limeburner has been fishing ok – perhaps not just as good as earlier in the season. The sandy bays have been Ok with both good and bad days. Wrecks have been fishing good. There sems to be lots of Tope this year & they seem to have migrated earlier than normal onto the Limeburner grounds.
